I get weird ideas about car’s sometimes....all the time. Like how much a final generation DeVille would have rocked even more if it came in a wagon variant. Which it would have. Then I began thinking about the Eldorado. Then the Mark VIII. One of the first cars I ever fell in love with was a 1998 LSC Collectors edition. The lady who took car of me during the day when I was little had one. I’m pretty sure her husband was in the mob. Who else buys a black Tahoe AND a black Suburban in pairs and leaves the house every morning with a handful of cigars from a giant empty pretzel jar? I digress.
Point was I got to thinking, what with Lincoln’s plans for the future supposedly including a sports car, has anyone ever photo-shopped an MKZ into a coupe? So I went to the intertubes and found this:
And I say to myself, “Not bad.” The overhangs are all wrong, and it would need to be pillar-less, and the c-pillar back looks to have bad proportions thanks to a rear window with too much slope. But I feel like it would sell. Looks a damn sight better than the CTS coupe did.
Then I found a Mustang that someone had ‘Lincoln-ed’
And I again said to myself, “Hmmm. Yes, this seems to be working.” But it still does not work. It seems that the roofline in the back was raised for more headroom, but I can’t help but feel the wheelbase needs to be extended. But that wouldn’t help the fact that the rear end looks like a Ferrari FF. A true Lincoln two door has room for adults to actually comfortably ride in the back.
And then I saw something I hadn’t thought about in years: The Lincoln Mark IX concept that debuted in 2001. The unholy union of a Cadillac XLR and a Phantom Drophead, granted. But I think it’s delightful in its simplicity. Slab sided, low roof, high sides, but a very airy greenhouse. It accomplishes the subtle flashyness of american luxury. Somebody used a ruler when they designed this, and I like that. Especially in a world where no auto designer is allowed to have a straight edge in their office anymore, lest it be found and used to beat them about the head and hands for a lack of creativity.
10/10 would waft.

And then Acura needs to revive the CL. Call it the CLX. FWD + P-AWS, SH-AWD dual clutch auto transmission! 3.5 V6!!

I think a properly executed dream exist in the combination of those 3 photos.
And that’s about as poetic as I’m going to get. Lol

I’d rock that...
Until the bro crowd gets ahold of them.

I was going to say...
This car would be relegated to the same duties the G35/G37 Coupe performs so fast your head would spin.

I’d take one of these over a Fusion coupe.
Now a Mustang in a fancy suit is a different thing.
Its worked before and Ford should get more use from that chassis anyways.

I’m not sure. The 3.2CL never became a bro-mobile. Also it’s a nice, soft Acura, while the bros would rather go for the harder, edgier Infiniti.

I agree completely. I don’t see why you would pick an MKZ/Fusion coupe over any of these vehicles. You clearly want a muscle car, not a personal luxury coupe. Be glad that entire class of vehicle isn’t, for all intents and purposes, dead.

The CL 3.2, perhaps not. But I have seen several CL Type-Ssssssssszzzzzzzz (however one plurals that) in the company of some pretty broseph-y people.

Strange. I never see bro’d-out CLs.
My dad used to drive a 3.2CL Type-S. Glorious fucking vehicle.

One can hope. I would adore Acura if they chopped two doors off the TLX as compared to chopping doors off the ILX

I ache for a two door luxury coupe to be built by Lincoln? Will it ever happen? Magic 8 ball says ask again later

Here in CT people who drive CL/TL series Acuras feel the need to try to race me every time they see me,even more so than the G35/37 crowd. Super annoying to the point where it’s one of the few cars I wish never existed.

My dad had a 1986 Mark VII with the LSC 302 in it. It would fly.

I’ve seen more than a few “bro” cls. I’m thinking they’re usually handed down from parents as I tend to see them parked on the street in well off neighborhoods.

If there were a Lincoln coupe built on the Mustang platform with the 2.7L ecoboost from the 2016 MKX, Ford might grab my attention.

This is exactly what happens when you allow a Camaro and a Mustang to interbreed! At least that’s what I see when I look at this and honestly, I kind of like it.
